Lynza project > naming

Project: Lynza_ UAV/Drones services company / Date: 2013

> Naming process:

Problem

The company was looking for something to define its working grounds such as: Land, Sea and Air. Its services and technologies were based around controlling vehicules remotely. Different tools were required for each ground.

< LAND | SEA | AIR >

We determined that the nexus between them was “the visualisation” or the possibility to view landscapes.

At that point, we had our line of work! we could start the brainstorming and research process.

After a few weeks and different proposals, we started to think about the natural environment and realized that the animal who had the best eyesight of the kingdom was the Lynx

The Lynx is native of the area were the company wanted to start their services, and therefore it would be easily recognized by future customers

Solution

We played with that the name´s root and finallly, we had it: Lynza

Easy to remember, short, and maintained the relationship with our chosen animal. We could now move on to the next step our… Identity!

But wait! Would be ‘Lynza’ recognized by Spanish people? Most, if not all our customers would be Spanish. We paused, we had to think about it for a moment. The problem was that ‘Lince’ is the Spanish word for Lynx.

Despite that fact, we bet on ‘Lynza‘ because the sound was similar and would set us appart from our competitors, and through the graphic identity we could work emphasize the relationship between lynx,´lince´ and visualisation.

Lynza project > identity

Project: Lynza_ UAV/Drones services company / Date: 2013

> Graphical identity:

Once we got the name ‘Lynza’, we started to gather (members of the company) ideas and research our markets, customers and competitors. It was just then, that we started playing with our best tools: pencils, rubbers and papers.

Item

We started by working on the visualisation aspect, which was the directing our line of work.

Typography

We then moved on to the typography. The company needed to build a strong and trusted brand, especially because most of the filming would be based in dangerous places. Thus, the typography had to evocate strength and trustworthiness.

Sketches

It was time to capture all the ideas that had been vocalised since the beginning. We could play with shapes, strokes, etc. Although we had set as a priority to emphasize the Lynx and refer back to our line our work (´visualisation´).

image

We worked around the animal’s head because its ears and whiskers were highly characteristic, thus it would be clearly recognized.

Colours

We were looking for colours that could be seen from a long distance, no more than two ink types abd primary colors.

Result

Finally and after working our way through the ideas, we got it!
